Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop

The Paperback Princesses/Crazy-for-Books have given us a very interesting question for the Hop this week. "When you read a book that you just can't get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or move to your next title?" I struggled with this in July. I almost didn’t finish the book. I also discussed this with another blogger recently, but I can’t seem to remember who… Sorry.

Even though I believe that if you’re not enjoying a book, you should have the freedom to put it down and move on, I find it difficult for myself to put it into practice. I feel like, if it’s been published, there has to be a reason. If I just read a few more pages, it’ll get better. I’ve deluded myself more than once. I once read an entire book to the end and only liked one chapter and that chapter had almost nothing to do with the actual plot. There have been a couple books I’ve actually given up on, though I hope to try again another day. Am I deluding myself again? I don’t know. So, while most of the time I do stick it out until the end, I don’t always think it’s worth it.

  1. Blog Hopper here! I did it last week and fell in love with it! I remember once, I started to read a book and I just didn’t like it. A couple of years later, I picked it up again (yes, I forgot I’d read part of it). This time my tastes had changed and I absolutely Loved the book from the start to finish. So you never know. If you can’t get into it, put it aside for another time. I do.

Ummm, Follow Friday recommended read: Trouble in a Stetson by Regina Carlysle.

    Followed you!

  2. Hopping by to return the visit! Bravo for sticking it out when the reading gets tough! Sometimes I feel like such a quitter for putting down so many when I'm not obligated to review them. :-)

  3. Hi, I'm visiting on the Hop!

I don't think you're deluded at all - I push myself to finish a book as well, though it can take me months or even years! I just like to finish what I start. :)

  4. I wonder why it is we readers feel obliged to finish a book we've started. I am very reluctant to give up on a book, even though my motto is "so many books, so little time," and by reading a bad book I'm NOT using the time to read a better one.

  6. I like what you said about having the freedom to stop when you want. But sometimes there is a tiny part of you that wants to somehow make the book better by continuing :o)

Hopping by & still following :o)

Here's my book hop response (the right addy this time!). Have a great weekend :o)

  7. New follower here!

What are the books you've given up on?

I think an important thing to remember is that the reasons books are published aren't always good ones. Example? All the vampire books on the shelves in the YA section right now. Quite a lot of them are AWFUL, but they were published to make a fast buck riding the Twilight wave.
