Iron Man 3

 Iron Man 3 was a great movie. Across the three movies, Tony Stark goes through, what I think of as, a full character arc. He learns so much. As much as I enjoy the awesome suits, the action and the sarcastic humour, it's the characters that have made me love Iron Man 3.  I loved Pepper.  She's really become someone who can hold her own with the over-the-top Tony Stark.  Also, I loved what they did with The Mandarin.  It was so unexpected, I enjoyed it, though I don't know if everyone will. AIM!  Killian!  Extremis!  They all worked so well.  Don Cheadle is a fantastic War Machine.  He's also another character that can hold his own with Tony Stark.  I enjoyed the 3D, which I'm not sure is necessary, but I still liked it.  The movie was flashy without taking away from the story.

I could go on about how much I loved this movie.  Could I nit-pick it?  Maybe, but I don't want to.  Will people disagree with me?  Probably.  But this is all just my humble (and excited) opinion. I was entertained. Thoroughly.

Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2 was fantastic. My husband read in the Toronto Star that it only received 2.5/5 stars. So when we went to see it last night, I didn’t have very high expectations. Today, I check Rotten Tomatoes which has it “Certified Fresh” with 74%. That’s more like it.

If you like action movies with an underlying current of comedy, you’ll love Iron Man 2. It’s full of fantastic explosions and armoured fights. It’s also full of comedic exchanges between Robert Downey Jr. and his co-stars. The movie touches on Tony Stark’s self-indulgent, self-destructive tendencies, which I thought added a bit of realism to the movie. He drinks too much as is narcissistic and he thinks he can single-handedly save the world. The movie was funny and exciting. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I could go on about what I loved, but really, just go see it.

One more thing, there’s an extra scene after the credits. I think it’s a bit of marketing for the filmmakers, but it’s still interesting.

I hope I don’t give anything away

Everyone needs to go see Iron Man! It was fantastic! You don’t even notice the time go by. Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow were awesome. I think they did an amazing job with casting. Robert Downey Jr. really captures Tony Stark’s philandering ways. He’s charming and extremely intelligent and it was translated wonderfully on screen. The only thing, regarding the cast, I wasn’t totally for was making Jarvis into a computer. He’s supposed to be the loyal butler. He takes care of Stark and eventually of the Avengers mansion as well. I suppose they’ll integrate that into the story whenever they get around to doing an Avengers movie. Maybe they didn’t want it to be too similar to Batman. Still, Iron Man is a hot, must see, action movie.

That’s another thing, to me, it’s an action movie. I loved every bit of it. The effects were amazing, the explosions were big, but it’s not a “comic book movie” the way Spiderman was. There are terrorists and men on fire and death scenes. Iron Man kills several terrorists who are holding people hostage. In the theatre, there were a lot of kids. There were kids, who I think, were too young to watch this movie. It’s violent, not all throughout, there’s a fair bit of humour to offset it, but I’m not sure I would take an seven-year-old to see this. It’s rated PG-13 and I would take that rating seriously.

But for all of you old enough to watch tanks blow up, Iron Man is a must see.
