This week The Broke and The Bookish have asked what are my Top Ten Favorite Books I Read Before I Was A Blogger. The only trouble I had with this list is remembering which books I read before I was a blogger. I've been blogging since 2006 and that's a lot of books. Then, I also had trouble narrowing it down to ten. But here are ten favourites that have stayed with me over the years. I plan on re-reading some (all) of them eventually.
1. The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood
2. The Time Machine, by H.G. Wells
3. Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston
4. Kindred, by Octavia Butler
5. The Lord of The Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkein
6. Life of Pi, by Yann Martel
7. Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë
8. Lives of Girls and Women, by Alice Munro
9. The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath
10. Haroun and The Sea of Stories, by Salman Rushdie
I'm going to sneak in an honourable mention of books 1-6 of the Harry Potter series.
What books did you love before blogging?
Great list! There are six here I really enjoyed, and The Bell Jar is near the top of my tbr pile.
ReplyDeleteI really think you need to read The Bell Jar. asap.
DeleteGreat list! I have several of these on my to-read list. Really need to get to The Bell Jar already!
ReplyDeleteThe Bell Jar is so amazing. I'm planning on re-reading it soon-ish.
DeleteI love the books on this list!
ReplyDeleteEspecially 'The Time Machine'. I read it for the first time last year and really enjoyed it.
I still need to read 'The Handmaid's Tale', I'm hoping to get to it over the summer.
Two awesome books. I probably recommend The Handmaid's Tale more than any other book.
DeleteI chose the Handmaids Tale too! It's such a great read with an ending that really plays on the mind of the reader. I have The Bell Jar waiting to be read too! Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten!
If you liked The Handmaid's Tale, I think you'll like The Bell Jar too. Amazing writing.
DeleteI love Jane Eyre! Such a good book :)

I agree. Hopefully I get a chance to re-read it one day.
DeleteMost of these are books I love, too, and most are books I read long before I became a blogger. The only exception is Haroun which I just read a year or so ago.
ReplyDeleteThey're such wonderful books. I'd love to re-read them and put my thoughts on the blog.
DeleteIf I went back to my childhood I could easily come up with 10. As an adult, most of my favourites came since blogging, though I know I used to list Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days as a favourite. Likewise Life of Pi. Possibly Handmaid's Tale.
ReplyDeleteNow that I think about it, I read most of those books while I was still in University. I took some great classes filled with (mostly) great books. The exceptions are probably Life of Pi, which I read because of it winning the Booker and Lord of the Rings, which I read because the movies were coming out.
DeleteI've been wanting to read these old favourites so I can blog about them... and to see if they're as wonderful as I remember.
